There was a backlash against the organizers of SXSW (South by Southwest) that made headlines today. Apparently, in music artist’s contracts, there was an immigration clause, which “reserved the right for SXSW to contact immigration authorities if international artists played unofficial showcases while in Austin.”

Apparently, it was made known on social media by a band withdrawing from the festival, and then other music artists became upset and the backlash grew from there.

At first, the organizers said they would consider altering it in the future, but that was apparently not acceptable, and they were finally motivated to eliminate the clause from future contracts, releasing this statement:

“In this political climate, especially as it relates to immigration, we recognize the heightened importance of standing together against injustice.”
